Who it helps
WordHalo for international students.
WordHalo helps international students read study material in a second language without breaking concentration. Highlight an unfamiliar term on a course page, article, or reference site and get a learner-friendly definition, a translation into your language, and an explanation of what the term means in that exact sentence — beside the text, not in another tab.
Where it fits into studying
- Web-based readings: articles, documentation, news, and open course materials on ordinary HTTPS pages.
- Unfamiliar academic vocabulary: the Definition tab uses simple wording, and In Context explains the specific sentence rather than a generic dictionary sense.
- Building a term list: save the words that keep appearing in your field; they are stored by language with definition, translation, example, and pronunciation.
- Exam-season review: flashcards space repeated reviews out over days and weeks — the distributed-practice pattern shown to improve retention (Cepeda et al., 2006).
What it costs a student
The free plan includes 15 AI reading helps per day, unlimited English dictionary definitions, pronunciation audio, and the full saved-word, flashcard, and games system — with no account and no payment details. Paid plans are previewed on the pricing page but are not on sale yet.
Honest limits for academic work
- AI explanations can be wrong or incomplete. Verify anything that affects graded work against authoritative sources — see the AI disclosure.
- WordHalo explains language; it does not write, paraphrase, or complete assignments.
- PDF readers and university portals that are not ordinary HTTPS pages may not support extensions.
