WordHalo helps travelers plan and research trips in other languages. While browsing local guides, venue pages, transit sites, or reviews written for locals, highlight what you don't understand and see a translation and in-context explanation without leaving the page. It runs in desktop Chrome — best for the research you do before and during a trip on a laptop.
Trip research it helps with
- Local-language guides, blogs, and reviews that never get translated — often where locals keep their favorite recommendations.
- Venue, museum, and event pages: opening hours, ticket rules, and the vocabulary around them.
- Transit and booking sites written for residents rather than tourists.
- Learning the handful of words you will actually see on signs and menus — save them and hear their pronunciation before you go.
Know before you rely on it
- Desktop Chrome only, for now. WordHalo is a Chrome extension; mobile apps are planned but not available. On a phone mid-trip, you will still want a mobile translation app.
- 25 detected languages. Check the supported languages before a trip; a destination language outside the list will not be detected.
- AI can mistranslate. Double-check anything involving money, tickets, or safety — see the AI disclosure.
Why it beats copy-pasting into a translator
- The explanation appears beside the original sentence, so you can compare the two and keep reading.
- In Context explains what a phrase means on that page — “closed on public holidays” style phrasing that word-by-word translation garbles.
- Words you save build a small travel vocabulary you can review with flashcards on the flight.
